Chinese Airlines Increase Fuel Charges by 50 Per Cent
As of 1 July, Chinese airlines will raise fuel charges by 50 per cent
to offset rising costs, state media reports. For domestic flights, the
charge is set to increase to RMB80 from RMB60, and for flights further
than 800km, customers will need to pay RMB150 instead of RMB100. People
who already have bought their tickets are not required to pay the
higher fee.
Earthquake's Economic Impact
The May 12 earthquake that shook western China has resulted in 372,000
job losses, making the unemployment tally in China's Sichuan Province
approximately 700,000, state media reports. More than 16,000 companies
suffered damages in the earthquake, leaving the province with economic
losses of RMB99.78 bn. The quake also robbed 1.15 million farmers of
their means of production.
