The following statistics were published this week:
- Cathay said it paid 60 per cent more for jet fuel in the first half of the year, compared with the same period of last year.
- Dell Inc, the world's second largest PC maker, is expecting to
increase the number of its directly owned stores to 3,000 from the
existing 1,800, by the end of this year, sources said citing Min Yida,
president of Dell Greater China, as saying.
- Adidas AG, the world's second-largest athletic shoes and apparel
manufacturer, plans to expand its retail network in China by over 50%
to 6,300 stores by 2010, sources said Thursday quoting Frederic
Seiller, vice president in-charge of retail operations in Greater China.
- Global networking leader CISCO Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sichuan government for making a USD45 million three-year commitment to support reconstruction work in quake-hit areas in the province.
- China's Xinjiang Ba Yi Iron & Steel Co Ltd, the largest steel maker in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said its net profit in the first half is likely to increase more than 200 per cent from RMB134.53m in the corresponding period of last year, with earnings per share of RMB0.23.
- Jiangling Motors Corp Ltd (JMC), a light vehicles maker in China, sold 51,722 vehicles in the first half of this year, up 14 per cent year-on-year, according to a company filing with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
- Baotou Bei Ben Heavy-Duty Truck Co. Ltd, a well-known heavy-duty truck manufacturer in China, announced its vehicle sales exceeded 16,000 units in the first half of this year, up 99 per cent year-on-year.
- The combined value of China's export and import in electronic and
information products grew 21.3 per cent year-on-year, to USD349.85 bn,
in the first five months of the year, according to latest statistics
released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)
on its website.
