China's National Copyright Administration yesterday ordered some 20 Chinese web sites to cease illegally streaming Olympics videos, state media reports.

National broadcaster China Central Television holds the exclusive rights for online broadcasts of the Games, including the opening and closing ceremonies, sporting events, pre-Olympic trials and torch relay.
However, the NCA says that more than 20 web sites "had illegally streamed the torch relay."

Shanghai Daily states that: "In late May, lawyers sent letters to the violators, telling them to cease transmitting any footage related to the Games. However, a few had ignored the warning."

Yesterday, the NCA, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television issued a joint notice banning illegal streaming of Olympic content. Violators will be "warned and punished," according to the notice.
