Passengers flying into China from 20 July should be prepared for tightened security at 20 of the country's major airports.
Travellers will undergo a security check before entering the airports, a move officials say has been taken toward ensuring no disruptions at the Beijing Olympic Games. Authorities plan to deal strictly with anyone carrying explosives, inflammables or any other materials deemed a threat to the Games. China's Civil Aviation Administration has already prohibited liquids and gels in any form from being carried by passengers, along with lighters and matches in hand luggage and checked-in baggage both, state media reports.
The new security checks will be in addition to those already in place at the airports, andt no one will be exempt, even those meeting and greeting relations at the airport.
Besides Beijing's Capital International Airport, the measure will be enforced in Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports, and the fellow Olympic cities of Qingdao, Tianjin, Shenyang, and Qinhuangdao airports, plus Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Jinan, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Hefei, Changchun, Harbin, Dalian and Hohhot. And all airports in the Xinjiang Uygur and the Tibet autonomous regions.
