570 million hours per day is the total amount of time Chinese internet users spend online, creating an enormous potential-e-commerce market, Boston Consulting Group found in a survey.
The group reported that 47 per cent of the populace uses a mobile
phones and a PC, and the figure is estimated to grow to 87 per cent by
2015. The digital market was valued at RMB580 bn last year, and is
anticipated to reach RMB1.8 tn in 2015.
BCG said that they are unable to approximate what percentage online
advertising will comprise by 2015, but it currently acounts only a
small segment as does advertising revenue. Michael Meyer, Managing Director of the BCG
was quoted as saying that "Chinese internet users' habits differed from
those of Westerners." The survey found that Chinese consumers are
hesitant to shop online, leaving only 28 per cent of the nation prepared to do so, compared to 71 per cent in the United States.
