State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) is keeping it all in the country. They’ve come to an agreement to purchase software, WPS Office 2007 from Kingsoft, giving Microsoft the cold shoulder.
Kingsoft will supply all divisions of State Grid Corporation throughout
the country as well as its 21 subsidiaries with China-made office
software, with independent intellectual property rights in their
computers, media reports. Chinese government agencies have reportedly
warned that depending too much on foreign-made software could be a
security hazard.
Kingsoft is confident that its WPS Office software is
equal to any of its kind. President and CEO Qiu Bojun said that
“Its high quality and innovative technology have been widely
recognized, and in 2004 to 2005 the company says it helped the Chinese
government save over RMB500m.”
SGCC, established in 2002 has a registered capital of RMB200 bn to
build and operate power grids and secure power supplies in 26
provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
