In efforts to help disadvantaged families to cope with ever soaring food and fuel costs, Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen revealed a HKD11 bn inflation relief package, as well as financial support for electricity and pocket money for the elderly.

Also included in the financial aid is a year-long halt on some government charges as well an increase in the School Textbook Assistance Scheme. It is also reported that residents who receive social security assistance will get an additional one month’s allowance and those living in public housing will be spared from paying rent for two months.
