China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has launched a new mobile phone anti-spam software.
The software is free of charge and can be downloaded at wap.12321.cn.
The functions allow users to filter and screen messages before reading
them, and to block unwanted phone calls. The software launch is a
result of an anti-spam alliance meeting organised by the Internet
Society of China, which represents 34 operators and service providers.
Official statistics show that from January to June, 438,668 spam messages
have been reported, of which almost 40 per cent were categorised as
deceptive messages, followed by commercial promotions and sales of
certificates and illegal products.
