Great Wall IPO Denied
The China Securities Regulatory Commission has blocked a domestic IPO by automobile producer Great Wall Motor without giving details, state media reports. Some analysts believe that the disappointing stock market and the uncertain outlook for the automobile industry might have been key reasons for the decision. Great Wall listed its shares in Hong Kong in 2003 and had plans to issue 120 million shares in the mainland.

Geely to Export Cars to Europe and U.S.
China's carmaker Geely Automobile Holdings said it will start exporting cars priced at RMB100,000 to Europe and the United States by 2009. "We don't have a detailed timetable for landing the models in the mature markets, but we have prepared well by planning the launch with vehicles that match the quality and standards of those markets," state media quoted Daniel Dai, Geely's Vice President of International Business.

Shanghai R&D Centres Near 250 Mark
The city of Shanghai is home to 244 international research and development centres, the city's Economic Commission said in a statement. The figure was mentioned in an announcement that Shanghai has plans to "triple the number of companies setting up headquarters in Shanghai" by 2013. Currently, 180 foreign companies have set up their regional headquarters in Shanghai.

Hong Kong Airport World's Best - Again
For the seventh time in 10 years, Hong Kong International Airport has been named "best airport" by UK-based research group Skytrax. More than 8.2 million questionnaires were completed by travellers from all five continents between August 2007 and May 2008. The survey placed Singapore's Changi Airport second, followed by Seoul Incheon. Munich, Copenhagen, Zurich and Helsinki are the only European airports to make the top ten.
