Nineteen Chinese airports have stepped up their security measures for the Olympics. These include Beijing's Capital International Airport, all airports in the Olympic co-host cities, and those in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Tibet.
All passengers are now checked for explosives at airport entrances,
before actually entering the terminal. Airport staff and people
collecting or seeing off passengers are also subject to the new checks.
The new airport procedures coincide with the publication of an
“anti-terrorism manual” explaining to locals “39 dangerous situations,
including “an explosion, shooting, hijacking and chemical or nuclear
attack,” according to China Daily.
The manual, published by the Ministry of Public Security urges Chinese
people to stay calm if they see a suspicious package and send a text
message and photo to the police before moving away from the area.
