Spain's Gran Melia, the world's ninth-largest hotel group, will open its first hotel in China later this year. The project will be a Sino-Latino collaboration, owned by Shanghai Suncuba Co Ltd – a joint venture between China's Suntime and Cuba's national travel company, Cubanacan.
The Gran Melia Shanghai, located in Pudong will feature 483 rooms, plus
199 suites and four specially equipped rooms for handicapped
travellers. Targeting mostly business travellers, it will also feature
Chinese, Italian and Spanish restaurants and a pillarless 1,000-person Grand Ballroom.
Bringing a salsa-themed hint of old Havana to the new Shanghai riverside will be a bespoke Cuba Cabaret venue, and the Red Glove Cuban cigar bar.
