The organisers of the Beijing Olympics have signed a contract with U.S.-based Universal Detection Technology to provide handheld intstruments for bioterrorism detection, American media reports.
The handheld devices are designed to detect Anthrax, Ricin, Botulinum
Toxin, Plague and SEBs in as little as three minutes, the company says
in a statement. Zhou Yongkang, Chinese Minister of Public Security, was
quoted in an article published in the Homeland Security Daily Wire as
saying that "Terrorism poses the biggest threat to the holding of
successful Beijing Olympic games".
Universal Detection Technology will also supply radiation detection equipment for use during the Olympics.
