Estimated 4.7 Billion 2008 Olympic Audience
We knew it was coming - but today we learn that the 17-day 2008 Beijing Olympics drew an estimated global television audience of 4.7 billion. The figures from market research firm Nielsen said that the estimated audience from 8-17 August surpassed the previous record of 3.9 billion viewers for the 2004 Athens Games. Nielsen said that "about 94 per cent China's 1.3 billion people" watched some of the televised coverage. The figures are estimates based on data sourced across 37 markets.

Berghaus Targets Outdoor Activities Market
UK-based Berghaus, a high-street retailer of outdoor clothing and adventure equipment, has announced plans to open 200 stores across China. It signed a six-year contract with Symphony Resources, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed Symphony Holdings, to jointly expand the Berghaus brand in China. The company said it believes the emerging outdoor activities market in China has great potential, making it the right time to enter the market. Berghaus plans to open 400 stores in Asia in the next five years, of which 200 will be located in China.
