The latest round of recalls has moved beyond food. French furniture retailer Conforama has recalled Chinese-made armchairs and sofas in France and Switzerland after hundreds of buyers complained about an eczema rash, European media reports.
Conforama has written to 38,000 customers in several European countries
that bought Chinese-made armchairs or sofas between 2006 and 2008.
Complaints from hundreds of customers about a painful eczema rash has
forced the French furniture retailer to take this action.
A spokeswoman said that some of the furniture, which was made by Chinese company Link Wise, contained too much of an anti-mould substance, which could cause an allergic reaction.
French newspaper Le Parisien writes that 12 people have been
hospitalised "in a serious condition" after they bought the chairs.
Conforama has reportedly received more than 400 complaints from
customers and about 800 have already received an exchange or a refund, the spokeswoman said.
