China’s third manned space mission will blast off from Jiuquan, Gansu province, at some point between Thursday and next Tuesday, depending on weather conditions. The Shenzhou-7 spacecraft will send three Chinese astronauts, at least one of whom will make a historical spacewalk.
Six Chinese astronauts have prepared for the mission; three pilots who
will form the mission crew, and three substitutes. Neither the military
nor the mission's headquarters has officially released their
identities. They will, however, face a press conference on Thursday.
Scientists working for the mission said on Tuesday that the carrier
rocket of the spacecraft was ready to be fuelled, bringing the launch
to the countdown status. Five satellite tracking vessels will support
China's first spacewalk mission.
