Microsoft's Office 2007 software will be legally sold over the counter for RMB199 (USD30) during the Chinese October National Day holidays, Microsoft said in a statement today.
The retail price for a genuine copy of Office 2007's Chinese Family and
Student Package versions will be lowered from RMB699 to RMB199. This
constitutes the first markdown for Microsoft since the company entered
the Chinese market 20 years ago, Trading Markets reports.
The new price is reportedly at the same level as domestic software.
Microsoft has teamed up with several Chinese and foreign retailers
including Beijing Federal Software Co, Suning, Amazon.cn, Dangdang.com,
Carrefour and Best Buy to actively promote its newly priced software.
But the discounted price won't stay for long. The product's original
selling price will be resumed after the National Day holidays.
Microsoft said it will continue to launch promotions in China during
holiday seasons.
Fake Microsoft programmes are openly available in China for a fraction of the original price. The recently implemented anti-trust law brought accusations to the software giant's price policy. For more information click the links below.
