- Imports of edible oil grew 4.7 per cent in the first eight months of this year, new figures of the General Administration of Customs show. Last year, imports increased 23 per cent. The slowdown results from a shrinking soybean supply from Argentina, state media writes.

- The price for jet fuel, kerosene, has been lowered for airlines in the Chinese mainland starting from October 1. Companies need to pay RMB7,750 per tonne, RMB570 or 6.8 per cent less than in the third quarter of this year, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Civil Aviation Administration of China said.

- A survey by the Greater Paris Investment Agency puts Shanghai on top of a list of most attractive global cities to invest in. The survey was presented by Thierry Jacquillat during the "Summer Davos" in Tianjin. He said this is the first ranking that compares cities from developed and developing nations. Beijing, Mumbai, Moscow and Dubai are also among the top five cities.

- The share of mobile telecom business in the telecommunications sector increased to 3.48 per cent to 54.38 per cent. Fixed-line phone services made up 35.98 percent, 5.76 percentage points less than in 2007, state media reports.

- China's growth will slow to 9 to 9.5 per cent because of the unstable global financial markets, banking regulators said. Last year, GDP expanded 11.9 per cent and in the first half of this year, the figure increased 10.4 per cent.

- 55.5 million people have reportedly traveled on Tuesday, the second day of the "Golden Week" Holidays, the Ministry of Transportation said. This constitutes an increase of 7.4 per cent compared to last year.
