The U.S. National Basketball Association (NBA) and the AEG entertainment group have agreed to jointly develop more than 12 NBA-style basketball arenas in China, Sport Business reports.
The stadiums will be built in China’s major cities, and are likely to
be financed largely by local and provincial governments. AEG says more
details will be released soon, including when and where the venues will
be built.
"We expect within the next few weeks to begin a series of announcements
on opportunities, partnerships and a vision with corporation and
government officials," the company said. "We anticipate that in a
relatively short order, we will have laid out a road map of a dozen
buildings throughout China even down to some small cities."
U.S. media is reporting that the new arenas will form the backbone for an NBA-branded basketball league in China.
