China Launches Third Remote Satellite
China will launch a new remote sensing satellite on Monday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in Gansu province. The satellite would be used for "scientific research, land resources surveying, crop yield estimate and disaster prevention and relief," state media reports. Two similar satellites have been previously launched by China: the Yaogan in April 2006, and the Yaogan II in May 2007.
Mobile Phone User Growth Slows
China registered 3.22 million new mobile phone subscribers in October,
way down on the average monthly increase of 8.5 million in the first
nine months of 2008, according to the Ministry of Industry and
Information Technology. By the end of October, China had more than 627.26 million mobile phone users.
