China Revokes 564 Food Production Licenses
China has revoked food production licenses for 564 companies, including producers of rice and frozen foods, as part of a crackdown against unsafe manufacturing practices. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said the decision was part of a "special campaign to ensure product quality and food safety and strengthen food safety supervision."

 

 

It identified the three worst offenders but did not give details of their violations. They were the Shijiazhuang Good Cook Food Factory, a monosodium glutamate factory, the Hefei Wanmaomao Quick-frozen Food Co., and Kaiping Shagang District Xinfengsheng Rice Factory.

 

Continental Gets Approval For Shanghai Route
Continental Airlines got initial approval from federal regulators to start flying between between Newark and Shanghai. Service would start in 2009 and would mark the second China route for Houston-based Continental, which already flies daily between Newark and Beijing.

Haier And Cisco Cooperate
The Haier Group, China's largest manufacturer of white goods, announced Tuesday in Qingdao, Shangdong Province, that it will cooperate with the Cisco Systems Inc on networking systems for home and individual users and on expanding the Chinese and international markets.
