Ranked as the largest yearly conference for China's Internet industry,
the China Internet Conference 2007 opened this week in Beijing. The
conference covered Chinese, regional and global online achievements
over the past year, and sought to forecast future growth and future
challenges facing the Internet industries. It is the fifth such event
to be held in China.
China's Internet industry has expanded at an astonishing pace in recent
years. Internet users are currently estimated to be around 162 million, approximately 12.3 per cent of the population, and at the end of June 2007 China's annual online usage increase rate was 31.7 per cent.
To
optimise China's online potential, however, IT companies need to
continuously innovate in technologies and provide better online
services, said China's Deputy Minister of Information Industry, Xi Guohua, during the opening ceremony at the conference.
Executives
from leading internet enterprises participated in the conference,
including Cao Guowei, CEO of Sina and Li Kaifu, President of Google
China, as well as representatives from government ministries,
network providers, hardware and software manufacturers. A summit was
also held for the top executives of web companies, discussing key
growth areas, such as web techniques, online commerce and web
advertising.
