Coca-Cola marked the 80th anniversary of its first entry into China by announcing a new tranche of growth plans.
China is now the fourth-biggest market for the world's largest beverage maker and has the fastest annual growth.
Coca-Cola has doubled its Chinese business over the past five years, with a compound growth of 17 per cent annually. In 2006, sales in China surpassed one billion unit cases, giving it an 11 per cent market share of non-alcoholic beverages and more than 50 per cent for carbonic drinks.
Fierce competition in the China marketplace has, however, pushed Coca-Cola to plan a tripling of its distribution within five years and
enhance cooperation with more retailers and airlines to boost sales nationwide. It currently has 30 bottling companies and 36 plants with a total investment of USD1.3bn since 1979. It is also considering potential domestic targets for acquisitions.
