Future Generations, an NGO partnered with Goldman Sachs, has announced the launch of the "Green Long March" movement in Shanghai. The campaign "aims at encouraging Chinese citizens in cutting carbon emissions in Shanghai and in cities along the Yangtse River."
The campaign, "which comes at a crucial time in the run-up to the Copenhagen UN global climate change talks, supports China’s energy goals for 2010: reducing energy consumption per unit of GDP by 20 per cent and increasing the use of renewable energy to 10 per cent of total consumption."
On 5 July, volunteers will launch "the Green Long March in Shanghai with a public education campaign on energy issues." To promote community-based environmental solutions, students from Shanghai Finance University "will give away 3,000 biodegradable corn-based 'Biostarch' shopping bags that dissolve completely in hot water."
The "Students Launch Green Long March in Shanghai" event takes place from 3pm-6pm on 5 July, at Superbrand Mall in Shanghai
