Macau's total exports fell by 53.3 per cent year-on-year in the first five months of 2009, to MOP3.28 bn, according to Macau's Statistics and Census Service. The value of domestic exports and re-exports "declined by 67.5 per cent and 29.9 per cent, respectively." Total imports of goods during the same period dropped by 21.6 per cent, to MOP13.99 bn.
The value of merchandise exports to the United States, the EU and mainland China fell by 76.2 per cent, 58.4 per cent and 42.7 per cent, respectively, according to Macau's Statistics and Census Service.
Textile and garment exports were particularly impacted, dropping 69.3 per cent year-on-year to account for 38.9 per cent of Macau's total exports of goods in the first five months. At the same time, the value of imports from mainland China dropped by 43 per cent year-on-year. |
