Air China will today launch a direct flight from Beijing to Lhasa, the first flight to directly link the capital of China with the Tibetan capital.
The daily flight will depart from Beijing at 7am and arrive at Lhasa Gonggar Airport at 10.50pm. This will save passengers two hours compared with current flights, which are routed via Chengdu. This direct flight is aimed at boosting tourism from China to Tibet.
China is currently constructing a RMB1.54 bn, 37.86km highway between the airport and the Tibetan capital Lhasa to ease onward transportation. |
