The port of Shanghai recorded a 20.9 per cent year-on-year increase, generating USD378.17 bn in foreign trade, for the first nine months of 2007, according to state mdia. The European Union and South Korea are the port's two largest trade partners, while almost three quarters of the port's trade is being carried on by foreign companies.
Total export value from Shanghai port reached USD238.5 billion, an
increase of more than 22 per cent, while imports were valued at
USD139.68 billion, up almost 18 per cent on the same 2006 period.
September was the port's busiest ever month for imports: with goods
coming into Shanghai totalling USD17.63 bn.
Bilateral trade between Shanghai and the European Union ports amounted
to USD81.88 bn, or 21.7 per cent, of Shanghai's total external trade
volume, an increase of 30.2 per cent, Xinhua reports.
