Fashion house Fendi this week held the most lavish event ever staged at the Great Wall. A celebrity-studded sunset fashion show on Friday, produced by Karl Lagerfeld, featured eight models strutting down a specially-built raised platform on the Wall at Juyongguan. The show was attended by CEOs of most LVMH brands, plus celebrities such as Kate Moss, Kate Bosworth, Thandie Newton, and Chinese movie actress Zhang Ziyi.
"We've worked very hard for one year to prepare the collection,"
designer Silvia Fendi told Reuters. "Where do we go after? Maybe the
moon. Why not?” The event was supposed to have been held in May, said
Fendi CEO Michael Burke, but was delayed due to permit approval.
The Fendi event marked the brand’s imminent opening at Swire
Properties’ mammoth The Village shopping and entertainment district,
currently being finished in Beijing’s Sanlitun district. The Village
will be home to Adidas' largest store worldwide, covering a total floor
area of 3,160 sq m, as well as the largest shops in China by Montblanc
and Sephora. A host of other resident international brands will include
Nike, Best Seller, Folli Follie and Kosta Boda Orrefors, Versace, Ports
International, Masterpiece, Class Roberto Cavalli, Esprit, Lacoste,
Quiksilver, Craft, Mizuno, Hilfiger Denim, Levi's, Sole Town, Eminence
and G2000.
