The following economic statistics were published this week.
- China sold 93 million mobile phone handsets in 2006, and is projected to sell 100 million this year. Sales by 2010 are estimated to his 138 million.
- The International Monetary Fund has revised its 2007 growth forecast for the Chinese economy to 11.5 per cent, up from the original 11.2 per cent. The IMF expects growth to slow slightly to 10 per cent in 2008.
- China received USD69 bn in foreign direct investment in 2006, placing
it third on the global FDI ranking list, behind the United States and
United Kingdom.
- China signed agreements to transfer 1,928 copyrights at the Frankfurt
Book Fair in early October. 32 Chinese publishing houses exhibited at
the Fair, up from just 8 in 2005.
