U.S. fast food group KFC has signed an agreement with Mongolia-based
Mengniu Dairy Industry Group, which will lead to the replacement of
Nestle as its key supplier for dairy products, according to state media.
The
strategic alliance is a "strong demonstration of faith in Chinese
product quality," says China Daily, alluding to myriad recent food safety
issues in China. The agreement between KFC and Mengniu Dairy will take
effect from next year and is a major coup for the ambitious Chinese
dairy supplier, as the American fast food chain sells dairy products at
all of its more than 2,000 stores in China.
The deal represents
the latest success for Mengniu, sponsor of China's hugely popular Super
Girl television talent show, which has replaced Nestle as a supplier
for other multinational food companies in China - including Starbucks,
China which made the switch from Nestle to Mengniu earlier this year.
