Shanghai Prohibits Advertising On Private Cars
Private car owners in Shanghai will be fined up to RMB2,000 if they
carry advertising on their vehicles, according to the local industrial
and commercial authority. With rising gas prices and the high cost of
maintenance, owners of private cars are reputedly earning up to
RMB9,000 a year by allowing companies to display adverts on their
vehicles. The latest case was of a local car seller who hired 20 people
to drive their Dongfeng Peugeots around town to advertise the company.
Cities to Hold Emergency Food Reserves
The central government has instructed 36 major cities to maintain a
minimum 10-day reserve of food and cooking oil supplies, state media
reports. This measure is believed to ensure market stability during the
current period of high and rising food prices. A notice jointly issued
by five ministries led by the National Development and Reform
Commission, said the move would ensure a "ready" emergency production
and distribution system.
China Fines Athletes for Disrespecting Sponsor Logo
China has fined four athletes for incorrectly displaying a sponsor's
logo during the Beijing Marathon in October. The Chinese Athletic
Association fined male runner-up Ren Longyun RMB10,000, apparently due
to "respect for the sponsor." Three other runners, including women's
runner-up Zhang Yingying, were each fined RMB3,000. A photograph on the
association's web site shows Ren's chest number hanging down to obscure
a sponsor logo. "It not only obscured his number and the (sponsor's)
trademark, it also exposed another sponsor," said state media.
