Air China Launches New Thailand Flight
Air China has launched a second daily air service between Beijing and Bangkok to meet growing market demand. The flight will leave Beijing at 1.30pm and arrive in Bangkok at 5.20pm. Return flights depart at 6.20pm and arrive in Beijing at 11.30pm. Latest travel statistics influenced the launch, as more than 843,000 Chinese visited Thailand last year (an increase of 18.6 per cent year on year). Analysts believe the total will hit one million by 2009.
Chinese Banks to Offer UK QDII Investments
China’s banking regulator has given the go-ahead for Chinese banks to
invest client funds on the UK stock market, and in recognised UK mutual
funds. The newly signed agreement represents a “significant expansion
of China’s Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor programme,” says
the Wall Street Journal Asia. Previously QDII was largely limited to
investments in Hong Kong. An agreement “in principle” with U.S.
regulators is also pending – this would allow Chinese commercial banks
to offer QDII products targeted at U.S. securities products.
China Becomes Top EU Import Source
China exported EUR123.7bn worth of goods to the Eurozone in the first
nine months of 2007, up 20 per cent on the same 2006 period. In doing
so, it overtook Britain (EUR122.3bn) to become the largest source of
imports into the Eurozone. The trend may well continue if, as widely
predicted, the U.S. economy heads into a slump. Eurozone exports to
China were also up, rising 13 per cent in the first nine months of 2007.
