China Unveils 2010 Expo Pavilion
China has unveiled its signature pavilion for the 2010 World Expo, to be held in Shanghai. At its heart is an oriental crown scheme that extends 63 metres in height. The pavilion will be built in the next two years at a cost RMB1.5bn. Organisers promoted the unveiling as a significant milestone for the Expo, signalling a green light for the construction of the much-hyped, six-month Expo event. Frestech Seeks Foreign Partners
China's largest refrigerator producer Frestech is in talks with foreign firms to develop strategic partnerships, according to company Chairman, Zhang Donggui. State media quoted Zhang as saying: “Foreign companies are keen on our 12 per cent market share, and we will depend on them to upgrade Frestech's image.” Zhang did not say which foreign companies Frestech is talking with, though Frestech will most likely offer a foreign player a minority share, in return for access to technology.

437 Million Retired Chinese Predicted by 2050
Some 437 million Chinese will be retired by 2050, up from 149 million in 2006, according to a new survey report by the China National Committee on Ageing. Currently 11.3 per cent of China’s population are aged 60 or above, and the CNCA says that figure will grow by 3.2 per cent every year, to reach 248 million in 2020 and 437 million by 2050.

Howard Johnson Raises Its China Brand Profile
Howard Johnson International China has announced plans to operate 30 hotels across the nation by the end of 2008 – up from 19 at the end of 2007. As part of its expansion, the group will enter the competitive Hainan Island market with a five-star, 1,160-room conference resort in Sanya in October 2008. Chairman & CEO Wilburt Chang also announced the launch of the company's first platinum five-star Plaza Royale brand, the launch of which will be in Pudong, Shanghai in 2008, followed by a second property in Changsha.
