As Shanghai’s hotel industry gears up for a pre-2010 World Expo glut of new openings, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is holding its hand. Instead of rushing ahead with its new Jing An Kerry Centre project, the group has announced that it will open two adjacent luxury hotels on a prime Puxi real estate in 2011.
The hotels will form the centrepiece of the new Jing An Kerry Centre,
Shanghai, a business, retail, dining and conference centre linking
Nanjing Road with the Yanan Highway, the city’s main west-east traffic
artery
The 347-room luxury Jing An Shangri-La hotel will open in mid-2011 on
the top 24 floors of a 58-storey tower, with the lower floors
comprising restaurants, offices, retail stores, and a signature CHI
spa. The development will also include the 600-room Jing An Kerry
Centre Hotel – modelled on the group's Kerry Centre Hotel in Beijing –
set for opening in late 2011.
