200 participating countries, regions and international organisations is the target set by the organising committee of the 2010 World Expo to be held in Shanghai. And, according to official sources, more than three-quarters of the target figure have already signed up.
Yang Xiong, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai and a member of the 2010 organising committee, commented today that 158 participants have
confirmed that they will exhibit at the Expo. Among the participants already signed on are 34 countries from Europe, 16 from the Americas, 36 from Asia, 45 from Africa and 10 from Oceania. In addition, 11 international organisations, such as the United Nations, the World Bank and the World Water Council, are confirmed.
An exhibition booth for the World Expo - which starts on 1 May 2010 and runs for 184 days until 31 October - is reported to cost anywhere between RMB2.7m and RMB60m.
