BMW and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings are considering setting up a second joint venture production plant, a local Chinese newspaper reports.
The new facility would be located in Shenyang, capital of northeastern
Liaoning province, and used to assemble several BMW models, the 21st
Century Business Herald writes. The new production centre is slated to
have an output capacity of 100,000 units per year – more than double
that of the two automakers’ current JV plant, also in Shenyang, which
can produce up to 41,000 cars per year.
Earlier in January, BMW announced that it had sold 42 per cent more
cars – up from 36,357 units to 51,588 – in China last year compared to
2006.
