The spate of copyright litigations against Chinese websites continues, with news that the LA-based Motion Pictures Association (MPA) has filed a lawsuit against Shenzhen-based Xunlei Networking Technology claiming RMB7m in damages for making movies available on its file-sharing network in China. MPA filed the charges at Shanghai Pudong District Court.

Xunlei maintains a popular peer-to-peer file sharing network claiming around 100 million users in China. MPA says the site allows users to illegally download some of its copyrighted movies, including Spider-Man 3, War of the Worlds and "Miami Vice. State media reports that its lawyers had sent 78 warnings to Xunlei before filing the lawsuit.

Motion Pictures Association has also filed actions against Chinese vendors of illegal DVD copies in recent years, and says it has been awarded a total of RMB2m in damages.
