Chinese authorities are currently reviewing plans to build a Disneyland theme park in Shanghai's Pudong district, Marketwatch reports. Unidentified sources confirmed that Shanghai government officials and Disney representatives have been holdings talks in the city. It had previously been mooted that the park would be sited on Chongming Island, offshore from Shanghai.
The discussions come at a time when Hong Kong's Disneyland park is
struggling to meet its visitor forecasts. During its second year of
operation, visitor numbers dropped to just over 4 million, from 5.2
million in the first year. Both returns fall short of the projected 5.6
million annual visitors.
