China's heavy and prolonged winter snowfalls, which endured from mid-January to mid-February, severely hit the nation's tourism industry. Official figures show that domestic tourism revenues suffered an RMB6.97 bn loss.

During the snow storms, some 824 scenic spots, 5,231 buildings, 15,000 tourism public service facilities, and 2,542 kilometres of tourism roads in 19 areas around China suffered damage, with 1,662 scenic spots forced to close temporarily.
