American customs officials said they have seized counterfeited Cisco Systems equipment manufactured in China worth around USD76m. The haul included network routers, switches, network cards and modules, some of which help protect computer networks important to national security, AFP writes. The FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Chinese authorities cooperated in the operation called Cisco Raider. Some of the goods were made for sale via the internet, with the rest imported through Canada to the United States.
By coincidence or not, Cisco announced today that it will invest USD16
bn into China within the next three to five years. The investment will
target local procurement, education, finance lease, products research
and development, sales, service and operations, Reuters reports. As a
result, Cisco expects to offer more than 50,000 jobs in China. Between
2005 to 2007, it invested some USD8.5 bn in China.
