The newly created Swire Hotels, owned by Hong Kong-based Swire Properties, will open its first hotel, a boutique property called The Opposite House, in Beijing this summer. The Opposite House is the first of a portfolio of hotels Swire is developing in association with leading global architects and designers in China, Hong Kong and the UK.
Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, The 99-room hotel will
form an integral part of Swire's giant new shopping, lifestyle and
dining development, called The Village, at Sanlitun in Beijing.
The hotel will feature an emerald glass exterior, and all guest rooms
ill offer natural wooden floors, deep oak bath tubs and under-floor
eating. The restaurants and bars - including a "luxury-meets-punk mini
club" - are being created by Shanghai-based restaurateur David Laris.
