Air China Launches Pyongyang Flights
Air China has revived plans to open a flight route to the North Korean
capital Pyongyang, according to the Xinhua news agency. The new Star
Alliance member will launch three weekly services from Beijing to the
North Korean capital from 31 March. It had announced the new service
back in November, and aimed to begin flights to Pyongyang in January,
but it later delayed the start citing operational reasons. The
state-owned carrier will be the only foreign airline serving North
Korea.
Beijing-Tehran Air Service Increased
China Southern Airlines, which recently joined the SkyTeam airline
network, will double the frequency of its non-stop direct flights from
Beijing to Tehran to four flights per week, starting 31 March. The new
flights will take eight hours and operate every Monday and Friday, in
addition to the current Wednesday and Saturday flights, with a stop at
Urumqi, which take 10 hours.
Warsaw-Beijing Flights Launched
Polish Airlines will launch direct flights from Warsaw to Beijing on 30
March, the first direct flights to link China and Poland. Initially,
there will be four weekly non-stop Warsaw-Beijing flights, using Boeing
767 aircraft until the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner is delivered.
Jumbo Jet Facility Planned in Shanghai
China wants to realise its goal of producing large passenger aircraft
at home in the "near future," state media reports. As part of the plan,
aviation companies and other state-owned enterprises will invest in a
new company, to be located in Shanghai, according to Xinhua. China's
two main aircraft producers -- China Aviation Industry Corp I (Avic I)
and China Aviation Industry Corp II (Avic II) -- are likely to
cooperate on the project. At present, only the United States, Russia,
France, Germany, the UK and Spain have the the capability to build
jumbo aircraft.
