More than 6,700 cartons of milk were recalled in Guangdong province after 119 children fell sick upon drinking contaminated milk. A local dairy producer said the contamination came from a "calcium material imported from the United States."

The Guangdong provincial food safety agency confiscated milk made by Zhuhai Weiwei Deheng Dairy Co and warned consumers in Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Foshan and Zhongshan against drinking the 150-ml high-calcium milk, local media reports.

Some 119 children at day care centres reportedly began vomiting after ingesting the high-calcium milk. Local authorities said staphylococcus aureus intestinotoxin was found in some of the products.

The producer of the milk, Zhuhai Wewei Daheng, said its own internal investigation showed that an imported calcium material was responsible for the incident. It has said it will compensate the families of the sick children.
