Pilots from China Eastern's subsidiary Yunnan Airlines returned flights to their departure airports in Yunnan province right after take-off in a protest over unequal employment rules, Reuters reports. The airline first denied that the coordinated pilot strike had taken place, but then admitted that it "will severely handle" the situation case by case.
Eighteen Yunnan Airlines flights returned to their departure airports
shortly after the take-off early last week. Local media reported last weekend that the pilots were protesting over lower pay, general
working conditions and the fact that Yunnan Airlines pilots fly only
domestic routes while their counterparts at China Eastern are able to
fly international routes.
China Eastern at first denied that a strike had happened, saying pilots
turned back to their departure airports because of bad weather
conditions, Reuters reports.
