As said by Comba Telecom, the wireless enhancement solutions provider that installed a multi-system wireless coverage project at the Games’ Shenyang Olympic Center, W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) equipment was not part of the system.
Comba Telecom completed the year-long project to test a multi-frequency wireless enhancement system, to allow full mobile signal coverage within the stadium that included TD-SCDMA, GSM900/1800, WIFI and WAPI (WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure). A spokesperson for the Comba later confirmed that WCDMA was not implemented at the site and was quoted as saying that he could not see WCDMA installed before the Olympic Games. Norson Consulting in Beijing held the same view.

As we have previously reported, 3G phone trial runs began on Tuesday 1st April this year in eight cities, all of which will host Olympic events.

According to Guo Fei of Analysis International, 3G users will have to roam onto the country’s GSM networks for voice.
