A Chinese official has denied that the country has tightened its visa issuance policy for foreign visitors, according to an Associated Press report. "China's visa policy is formulated according to China's laws and regulations and in line with international practices," Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a scheduled news conference. "I have checked this information and China did not stop granting multiple entry visas to foreign visitors."
Companies operating across China and Asia may view these comments with
scepticism. As we reported during our weekly e-update last Sunday,
Chinese authorities are now only issuing single- or double-entry travel
visas to foreigners in Hong Kong, and are no longer issuing
multiple-entry business visas. Visa processing times in Hong Kong have
slowed from same-day to next-day turnaround. Similar procedures are
also now in place in Singapore. The situation regarding visas renewals
issued within China remains confused.
