The EV71 virus outbreak in China - an enterovirus that causes hand, foot and mouth diseases - has killed 22 children and infected 3,300 more, state media reports.
The deadly outbreak was first published in the media earlier this week, although the first cases were reported already in
March. The virus has killed 22 children in Anhui province, and infected 3,300 more in Anhui and neighbouring Henan province.
Symptoms of the disease begin with blisters, mouth ulcers and rashes,
followed by fever. All of the deceased children are below the age of
six, according to state media.
