Shanghai’s labor union reports that the average monthly wages in the city has seen a yearly increase of 11 per cent from 2002 to 2006.

 

The local government has increased the minimum wage from RMB840 to RMB960 which became effective April 1 this year. State media reports that it has also made known that workers in all local firms, including companies running at a loss, are entitled to a pay increase this year.

The number of employees in the financial, property and service industries have seen a steady increase in the past four years.
