Analysts predict that the world’s fastest growing emerging markets could go head-to-head, in bid for MTN, one of South Africa’s largest telecommunications companies.

Bharti Airtel of India, which is reportedly preparing to make a bid for a controlling stake in MTN, may face tough competition from Chinese contenders China Mobile and China Telecom. Analysts believe that the China side will be stronger financially as they have government back up coupled with the largest subscriber bases in the world.

The Johannesburg based company is especially lucrative since it has approximately 70 million subscribers, more than 21 operations in Africa and in some of the world’s fastest growing telecommunications markets, which includes the Middle East, Nigeria, Swaziland, Syria, Sudan and Botswana.
