After several years without a direct connection between Switzerland and the mainland, Swiss International Airlines has launched a non-stop daily flight from Zurich to Shanghai.
Switzerland's Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Doris
Leuthard, was on the inaugural flight, and had subsequent meetings with
China's Minister of Commerce, Chen Deming, to discuss a free trade
agreement.
The new route supplements Swiss International's existing flight from
Zurich to Hong Kong. Switzerland has not had a direct connection to the
mainland since 2002.
Earlier this year, Swiss International Air Lines was awarded "Best Airline for Europe" by the readers of the Business Traveller magazine.
