Chinese Tour Groups to Visit U.S.
From 17 June, Chinese nationals will be allowed to apply for group
travel visas to the United States, following a joint announcement by
the China National Tourism Administration and the U.S. Department of
Commerce. Selected travel agencies in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai,
and in the provinces of Hebei, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and
Guangdong, will be allowed to organise group travel. So far, the United
States has only granted business travel visas to Chinese citizens,
state media reports.
China Starts Building Jumbo Jets
China unveiled its first jumbo jet aircraft company on Sunday in
Shanghai. The "Commercial Aircraft Corporation" (CACC) will build large
China-made passenger aircraft, and has received an initial financial
injection of RMB19 bn, state media reports. The Shanghai Municipal
Government will pay one-third of the total investment. Earlier this
year, China said it plans to develop a 150 seat passenger aircraft. In
the long run, the government hopes CACC will eventually compete with
Airbus and Boeing.
China and North Korea Seek Closer Economic Ties
Some 125 Chinese companies, including Haier, Konka, TCL and Jiangsu
Jincheng Motors, attend the 11th Pyongyang International Trade Fair
held this week in South Korea's capital. Dong Songgen, Vice Chairman of
the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), said that "the
Chinese enterprises hope to cooperate with the DPRK in the fields of
processing business, compensation trade, resource development and
cooperative joint ventures." Chinese trade and investment in North
Korea now exceeds USD2 bn.
